Week 3 Action Research Plan

Action Planning Template
Goal:  To provide RTI sooner to students in the classroom rather than waiting for tutoring immediately before testing.  Provide sooner support (within the week) for concepts learned so student doesn’t continue to get behind.

  1. First of all Lana, your template is not messed up! I actually would not have noticed if you hadn't said something initially. I think its more about the content than the template itself. I am curious what is your target population that will the intervention will serve and how did/do you identify that target population? I would also try to include another source for qualitative data besides teacher input and observations. This will assure that your data is not biased in any way. I hope these comments help for week 4's assignment. Check out my blog if you need a model. Good Luck!

  2. Thank you! RTI groups are my target because they are the students that we tutor at the end of the year (they get put in an RTI group at some point during the year due to failing benchmarks/classwork). The other data I will use, though I really didn't make it clear are scores from class tests, benchmarks mainly and of course the final STAAR test. I plan to compare the scores from last year to this year. I will go back and update my plan right now to reflect that. Thank you for pointing that out and thanks for your kindness in your words. Good luck this week!

  3. Perhaps it is my Safari browser (yes I am on of those...a MAC user) but the template does not show up correctly on my browser. Something you may wish to consider, as you referenced test data as the reason for the RTI students, is perhaps an analysis of test data following the earlier intervention. Looks good so far, and best of luck to you in the upcoming weeks in implementation.

  4. Thank you! Great idea! My template isn't that pretty, maybe after I make changes I can get it work!

  5. Being a middle school math teacher this is a great idea. We always have some form of intervention plan by giving students a second math class. I have found that giving extra support comes with its positives and negatives. Do you have the lesson designed in advance? Will you be conducting meetings to create lessons? It's hard not to become redundant and bore the students.

  6. Good thoughts Teasha, thank you. I am assuming that everyone that reads the plan knows how things are handled on my campus. I will go back and revise so that it is clear how the teaching will progress. Luckily, we have a scope and sequence for math that lists each lesson to be taught and in what order. Therefore, when I co teach with the math specialist, she will be aware of the objective and will "jump in" when necessary. We are close friends as well and have the same teaching styles so I am hoping for a smooth transition but there may come the time when we will have to pre-meet and design lessons together. Thank you for your in put it is greatly appreciated.

  7. Lana,
This is a great idea. What activities will you include that will be different? Will you get ideas from the book? How do you plan to evaluate if the early interventions is what made the students successful? How will you get parents involved? Are you going to compare the performance of students who participates in your research project versus the performance of students who do not?
